SHOW RECAPS FAQs
IMPORTANT - PRESS PASS/GUEST-LIST
You will need to either put me on the guest list for the show or buy me a ticket. I will need a photo/video and access all areas pass from the promoters for the gig. This tells security that I will be able go anywhere in the venue including on stage at any point in your set with no notice. Please sort this out in advance. It is an unnecessary stress on the night when I'm on a limited time frame to get all my shots.
IMPORTANT - STAGE ACCESS & ADVANCED PLANNING
For me to get the best results for your videos I will need stage access. You will need to clearly communicate with the venue, promoter and live team that you will have a videographer on stage with you and in the crowd at random times during your set. Photographers are generally welcome in the photo pit for three songs at the beginning of your set so make sure you make it clear that I will need stage and photo pit access at all times while you are on stage to your show rep ahead of time AND on the day. If stage access is not possible still make it clear that I will be there.
HOW FAR ARE YOU WILLING TO TRAVEL
I'm available to work worldwide. My travel and parking costs are always added in on top and are always calculated fairly. If we're working overseas I'd ask for you to pay for my flights and accommodation before the shoot takes place. If we feel an overnighter is needed to make it to a shoot then I'd request for that to be covered as well. This will be made clear and communicated at the time of booking if this is needed.
SET LISTS AND BIG MOMENTS
Please print me an extra copy of your setlist and highlight any songs with any big bits in them so I'm positioned accordingly to capture them. There is nothing worse than missing a cool moment. So please tell me in advance if you are planning anything special and if you are playing any songs that will receive a particularly big reaction.
HOW BIG DOES THE VENUE NEED TO BE?
Size doesn't matter! If it's well lit on stage it will drastically improve the quality of your video. I can bring some really sun-strip lights if we need it to get good results but I won't be able to man them while you play. Make sure you run the venue past me ahead of time. I'll peruse the internet and tell you if I think we'll have any problems.
WHEN DO YOU ARRIVE?
I usually try to arrive about 1 hour before doors open so we can say hi and go over everything. If this is when your soundcheck is we can arrange a different arrival time.
DO YOU TAKE PICTURES TOO?
Yes I can take pics. This is usually a separate service. There's a link to some photos I took here. That being said when I'm filming I usually take one or two photos as a keep sake or social media posting for myself that you are welcome to use. If you are wanting a certain number of pictures or certain shots I would say get someone separate as generally I have my hands pretty full doing video.
CAN YOU DO AUDIO TOO?
Not at the moment. Any audio you hear on any example videos is just my camera audio. This is something I'm looking at branching into though so if you have a simple setup and are up for being a guinea pig then get in touch.
HOW LONG IS THE FINAL PRODUCT? CAN YOU DO LONGER?
I usually aim for one minute give or take as this is the most social media friendly duration. If you want a longer edit we can look into it. Whether I could do it or not would depend on your set length. We don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity.
DO YOU CHOOSE THE SONG?
No. We agree this together. I sometimes suggest ones that will work but it's usually the band or artists most recent song. It can be good to get the song ahead of time as it may affect how I shoot on the day.
CAN YOU DO A NEW EDIT FOR A TOUR / ADD TEXT?
Yes. If you have the details when we do the video then just send me the details and I'll do a version with and without text. If you'd released the original video and then wanted some changes I would charge a small hourly fee for text adding or a new edit depending on what needs doing. Please bear in mind while I keep final videos indefinitely I do periodically delete raw footage due to storage issues so a re-edit may not be possible if a year or more has passed. Please let me know if you want me to hang on to raw footage when we film the video.
DO YOU DO TOURS?
Yes I can do tours and I can shoot a range of products. I would insist that we meet beforehand before I sign up to jumping in a van/tour bus with you for weeks! My calendar fills up fast so please get in touch as soon as possible to arrange this. If the tour is a long one then I may/may not be able to do the whole thing. I have some weddings booked two or three years in advance.
TURNAROUND / EDIT REVISIONS
I try to turn around my show recap videos fastest of all. I understand that it's important for you to get something out about your show as soon as possible to say thank you to people for coming. I aim to get these done in a couple of days but a one week turnaround is realistic. If we are on tour you are hiring me for the whole time so I'd edit the video for each night during the day so you have something to post before the next show.
CAN WE EDIT IT?
Yeah if you want. However I would always recommend using me. I would offer you a very slight discount but I am a quick editor, so you'll be better off if I do it. If you choose to do your own edit please run the final video past me if you want to put my name on it.
WHEN DO I PAY?
I take a 20% deposit at the time of booking. If you need to rearrange then that's fine. If you want to cancel then I keep the deposit. I ask for full payment via bank transfer once you have viewed the first edit of your film before I send any files or make any amendments.
CAN I PUT A FILTER ON IT AND UPLOAD IT TO INSTAGRAM?
Instagram filters generally don't look very good and crush the quality out of your super Hi-Res video. It's best not to. If you want the colour grade changing just ask.
WE'RE REALLY SKINT, IS THERE ANY MOVEMENT IN PRICE?
Maybe. I don't want people to be put off by the price tag of any of my work. I know music isn't the biggest earner for new artists. If I really like the music, if the venues really great, if I have space in my diary I may consider lowering for the right acts. Generally though my rates are reasonable for the pay-off you can get and I would only do this in certain circumstances. Please don't be offended if I dig my feet in. I may just be too busy to go out for less.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM US
Somewhere safe to put my equipment while I'm running around getting shots of you. All relevant passes taken care of and people told about my presence in advance so I don't get stopped while I'm doing my thing! Finally and most importantly, a good performance from you guys having as much fun as possible.
